The first clinical trial to investigate the health benefits of Rooibos in adults, especially people at risk of developing heart disease, is underway in Cape Town. Forty-one men and women, between 30 to 60 years, are participating in the 14-week trial. The research leader is Dr Jeanine Marnewick, a senior researcher in the Antioxidant Research Group at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). The South Africa Rooibos Council is announcing this study in Cape Town today (9 November 2007) at its first Rooibos Science Café, held at the MTN ScienCentre in Cape Town.
