Over the centuries, tea drinking has been inextricably linked to social change. Gathering and enjoying a cup of tea together, gave women the opportunity to find their voice, express themselves and provided them with political exposure. Many women’s rights movements started in tea rooms where conversations focused on the struggles and inequalities that affected women. Today, we are living the legacy of these afternoon tea conversations that have enabled women to go to college, vote and hold office, own property, having the right to birth control and not to be discriminated against based on gender.
